nude - Opens April 15th, 7-10pm
Please join us for the opening reception
of "nude" on April 15, from 7-10pm!
The exhibit theme focuses on the body as location, a personal investigation of form and physicality in art. "nude"takes a closer look at the tactile, sensual and sometimes repulsive nature of skin and the body. The works included in "nude" all maintain a predominately flesh colored palette, heightening the organic quality that simultaneously seduces and repels.
Including work in all media, each artist investigates the physical mapping and understanding of the body. Mixed media artist, Kris Ebeling of Ferndale, MI pushes and pulls the audience with her delicately rendered pencil drawing, which portrays a woman's puckered lips surrounded by a halo of meats. Ypsilanti video and installation artist, Jason Ferguson finds a deeper understanding of his identity in "Superficial Scan", which features a high-definition 10x optical zoom scan capturing all the details of his body.
Participating artists include Marcelyn Bennet-Carpenter, Kris Ebeling, Iris Eichenberg, Jason Ferguson, Petrova Giberson, Kylie Lockwood, Mark Newport, Corina Reynolds, Jane Ritchie, Claudia Florence Savage and Sarah Wagner.

The emphasis of our last exhibition, "NON NATIVE", was on place and it's influence on the artists and their work. The theme for our next exhibition, "nude" will focus on the body as location - the up close and personal investigation of skin, surface and form.
